A former Lions Education Foundation treasurer was arrested Friday for alleged embezzlement.
Kent Maloney, 69, was arrested for allegedly embezzling $275,000 over a seven-year period from the non-profit organization, associated with the Lions Club, a press release from the District Attorney’s Office stated. The foundation’s budget goes toward youths and education. There are no administrative expenses; all the money goes towards youth programs.
The case was investigated by the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance provided by the District Attorney’s Office. Detectives were able to uncover a hidden account, the press release stated, that Maloney used to hide his illegal activities from the organization.
Maloney is being held at the county jail on $250,000 bail.

I hope more and more non profits are looked at. When people donate money--it is in good faith that the money will go toward what they are giving to. People in charge of these donations should not be allowed to take it. Nor should non profits be allowed to reroute the funds to another project, without the consent of the population they asked the funds from. If a non profit goes under--it should be stated in the paper--so the public knows...instead of the funds going to yet another nonprofit for some project totally different. People have a right to know where their donations are going. Shame on this person if he took these funds--it reflects on the Lions club. A club that has done many wonderful things for our children. It reflects badly on nonprofits.

God bless America for all the citizens of the United States, for we are all presumed innocent until proven guilty in any court of law...this should be true even in the public court of opinion. Let's try to be patient and wait until all the facts and evidence are presented in this case. Thank you America for our right to exercise our freedom of speech.

Such a surprise...Kent has prepared our federal and state taxes for a number of years. Not only did his actions hurt the Lions Organization, but impacted the folks that work for him and the folks who entrusted him with their financial assets. He let down a lot of folks....
