Plans for relieving traffic congestion in the Diamond Springs area have been on the drawing board for more than 15 years. The Diamond Springs Parkway Project is expected to provide some of that relief by widening and realigning a portion of Diamond Road which is actually Highway 49 immediately north of the intersection with Pleasant Valley Road to a point just north of Lime Kiln Road. The balance of the project would construct a connecting road, the Parkway, from Highway 49 to Missouri Flat Road.

In addition to traffic relief, impetus for the Parkway project has been the proposed Diamond-Dorado retail center development by Leonard Grado and Palos Verdes Properties.
