For a brief moment it was the Redevelopment Advisory Committee, established by City Ordinance 7906, but now, with the elimination of redevelopment in California, it has been reinvented as the Economic Development Advisory Committee by a unanimous vote of the Placerville City Council at Tuesday's meeting.
The proposed nine-member Redevelopment Advisory Committee, whose duties were to advise the Placerville Redevelopment Agency on the use of redevelopment funds for projects in the redevelopment area, morphed into a seven-member Economic Development Committe whose proposed duties include assisting in promoting economic development in Placerville, community education on economic and business development topics and reviewing new businesses as appropriate in order to make recommendations.
The make-up of the committee will be one representative each from the Placerville Downtown Association, the Placerville Drive Association and the Broadway Business Association; one representative from the El Dorado County Chamber of Commerce and three at-large representatives residing within the city limits of Placerville. Recruitment of the committee begins immediately with the goal of appointing the committee in February or early March.
