Ring in the Constitution on its 225th anniversary

On Sept. 12, the El Dorado Chapter of The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is hosting a celebration of the 225th anniversary of the signing of the United States Constitution. The bells will ring at 11:45 a.m. at the El Dorado County Public Library, Main Branch, at 345 Fair Lane in Placerville.

Come one, come all, to experience a piece of history with: period costumes, a proclamation of Placerville Mayor Mark Acuna, and the signing of a large Constitution in which everyone will have a chance to sign. Attendees will also receive a Constitution booklet, and all signers of the Constitution will receive a sticker declaring, “I signed the Constitution.” The display of this Constitution will remain up and available to sign, in the library, throughout the week.

The constitution Preamble, “We the People…,” draws us into this magnificent document that is the outline of our American way of life and personal freedoms. The Constitution not only includes how our government will operate, but also all the amendments that detail our rights and freedoms as American Citizens.

We encourage the entire community — including families, home-schoolers, and those interested in history — to attend.

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890 to promote patriotism, preserve American history, and support better education for our nation’s children. Its members are descended from the patriots who won American independence during the Revolutionary War. With more than 165,000 members in approximately 3,000 chapters worldwide, DAR is one of the world’s largest and most active service organizations.
