A man is dead after a single-car accident near Red Hawk Casino in Shingle Springs on Friday morning.

Laura Duggins, 25, was driving her 1996 white Toyota Corolla eastbound on Highway 50 just east of Red Hawk Casino at 11:05 a.m. when she began drifting into the center median, said California Highway Patrol Officer Quinn Cuthbertson. She overcorrected, swerved across all lanes, began spinning and hit an embankment on the south side of the highway, on the right shoulder, said CHP Officer Dan Stark. The car overturned and came to a rest in the right-most lane.

Vincent Rapolla, 19, a passenger in the rear of the car who was not wearing his seatbelt, was ejected from the car and sustained fatal injuries. Duggins, who was later confirmed to be pregnant, was taken by air ambulance to Mercy San Juan Hospital. She sustained facial injuries but was to be released April 30 or May 1, Cuthbertson said. Ashley Valdez, in the front passenger seat, received moderate wounds and was taken to UC Davis Medical Center by ground ambulance.

The driver of this vehicle needs to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law for driving under the influence and for vehicular manslaughter. CHP received at least 10 911 calls for her erratic driving between Folsom and Shingle Springs. It was reported she was driving at high rate of speed and passing people in the median. Apparently no regard for the human life she was carrying in her car or the one she is carrying in her belly.

Lee you have no clue the report never said anything about her being under the influence I know the driver and the victim personally and your accusations about them are wrong don't demonize someone that you don't know on a personal level if your going to why don't you put some evidence behind what you say or keep it to yourself. thank you!

Rest in peace Vincent! I hope the driver gets what she deserves! Thats why its illegal to speed, drive reckless and drive while under the influence! And Lee it sounds like you got the right story for your comment. All of that is very much true!
