Rubes cartoonist to speak here
Rubes cartoonist Leigh Rubin will appear at the Mountain Democrat 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18.
This is Rubin's second appearance at the Mountain Democrat. He proved a popular and entertaining speaker last year for an audience of more than 100.
Rubin began his cartooning career in 1978 by establishing his own greeting card company, Rubes Publications. His first cartoon collection, the popular Notable Quotes musical cartoons, was published in 1981
Rubes, Leigh’s syndicated cartoon, began in 1984, and the first paperback “Collection of Rubes” was published in late 1988. His most recent series of books include the award-winning “Wild Life ...” series, each on Love, Cats, Dogs, Pets,
Cows and Farm Animals as well as his 25th anniversary collection “The Wild and Twisted World of Rubes.”
The Rubes cartoon has appeared in the Mountain Democrat comics page for more than a decade.
Rubes was originally self-syndicated, but is now distributed by Creators Syndicate to more than 400 newspapers worldwide. As one of the most popular single-panel cartoons, Rubes appears in major daily metropolitan papers such as the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, the Toronto Sun, the Washington Times, the
Sacramento Bee, the Houston Chronicle, the Orange County Register, the Los Angeles Daily News and, of course, the Placerville Mountain Democrat
Leigh said he also enjoys a busy schedule giving thought-provoking and entertaining cartoon presentations at conferences, as well as professional organizations all around the country.
The Mountain Democrat is at 1360 Broadway and can be accessed via the Schnell School Road exit from Highway 50 by turning south and then turning right on Broadway.
