Save water

You can earn your Blue Thumb by using water efficiently in your landscape and taking the “Blue Thumb Pledge.” It is fast and simple and by taking the pledge you can earn a free pair of “Blue Thumb” garden gloves.

The measures include pledging to: Quickly repair leaks and broken sprinkler heads; water your landscape early in the morning or late at night; add two to three inches of mulch around trees and plants to reduce evaporation; adjust sprinklers to prevent overspray and runoff; and use a shut-off control nozzle on your hose.

The Blue Thumb program is sponsored by the Regional Water Authority (RWA), of which EID is a member, and has partnered with the Green Gardener’s Association.

A water education event will be held on Saturday, May 19 at local nurseries in and around our area. The Front Yard Nursery has agreed to be the host for El Dorado County. They have drought-resistant and native plants available to beautify your landscape and help reduce water use. Visit BeWaterSmart.info to learn more.

  1. Charles Anderson says:

Communism. Pure and simple. Agenda 21 recommends water conservation. Connect the dots.

  2. Abby says:

Don’t think for one moment that EID rate payers aren’t paying for the Blue Thumb program. Though the press release says that the program is sponsored by RWA, EID pays to be a member – somewhere around $40,000 a year. If EID was as “transparent” as they claim to be, they would publish their budget on their website so we, the rate payers, could see how our money is spent.

  3. Citizen says:

Abby: On the subject of transparency, do you know if EID publishes minutes of their meetings at RWA. But possibly that wouldn’t tell us much. Most of the “stuff” takes place behind closed doors, or at lunch, or . . .
