Shively named interim general manager at GDPUD

With General Manager Hank White still on leave from the Georgetown Divide Public Utility District, on Monday night the district’s Board of Directors named Assistant Operations Manager Kelly Shively as interim general manager.

The special meeting was called to keep the district operating while White is out of the office. He has been on leave for several weeks due to a family emergency.

Board member Norm Krizl emphasized that the appointment was temporary as White was on approved leave and was expected to return.

Krizl then went on to ask if it was true that one of the board members had gone into White’s office and gained access to his computer.

Board member Maria Capraun responded, saying she had not used the computer and instead it was Shively who had done so.

Board member Ray Griffiths suggested that perhaps the president or a second person in the office should have the access code to the general manager’s computer. President Bonne McLane promised to make changes in the future to address those kinds of situations.

Resident Mike Webb commented that the meeting was a real eye-opening event on the duties of the general manager. He went on to say that “this is not some candy store for you to drill down and mess up. The way you’re conducting yourselves is rippling through this district. I hope Hank is back soon.”

The board then voted to give Shively all the authority and duties of the general manager on an interim basis. However, interim General Counsel John Knowlton informed the board it needed to pass a resolution for Shively to have full authority with certain institutions such as the banks. Since the resolution had not been referenced publicly in the agenda, it will have to be passed at the board’s next regular meeting.

The board also approved two contracts. One to hire the H2O Group to perform the design services necessary to relocate an existing line at Highway 193 and Catbird Hill for $14,000. Another to hire Fritz & Co. for inspection and maintenance on three generators for the district for $1,675.

The next regular meeting of the board will be on April 9 at 5 p.m. at the district headquarters.
