A suspect is in custody following two burglaries of the same residence in less than a week.
On Jan. 26 at 6:30 p.m., El Dorado Sheriff's deputies responded to the 2700 block of Morts Ct. in Placerville to investigate a burglary, according to a press release. A locked window of the residence had been forced open, and video gaming systems, video games, a compound bow, a pellet gun and jewelry were found to have been stolen by an unknown suspect or suspects.
The same residence suffered another break-in five days later on Jan. 31. An old coin collection, a Redbox movie, prescription medication, an iPod docking station radio and a roll of tin foil were found to be stolen. There was no information on suspects, and no evidence was recovered.
Following the burglaries, detectives launched an investigation targeting known burglars in the area, checking area pawn shops, gold stores and second-hand stores.
Pollock Pines resident Travis Cunha, 20, was identified as being responsible for the burglaries through the investigation. Detectives prepared an arrest warrant for Cunha and a search warrant for his residence.
On Feb. 9, detectives and Special Enforcement Detail deputies served the arrest and search warrants at Cunha's residence, taking Cunha into custody without incident. Most of the stolen property was recovered from Cunha's residence, but some had already been sold to friends and associates, and has not yet been located. Detectives, according to the press release, are confident that the missing property will be recovered.
Cunha is currently suspected of felony burglary and is being held in county jail on $250,000 bail.
