The man left a Facebook video of himself in the forested area, leaving a message to his family, a press release stated. Other postings featured him with a handgun and military gas mask, photos of a .308 caliber scoped sniper rifle and military backpack. EDSO determined that the despondent man was an ex-Marine, a veteran of Iraq. He had left his residence the previous night with the rifle, backpack and a .45 handgun.
As he was a risk to public safety, the sheriff’s SWAT team was sent to the area. With the help of a CHP helicopter, Justin Chuckyin Ho, 25, of Fremont, was found dead in the wooded area off Sherman Way in South Lake Tahoe. He apparently died of a self-inflicted gun wound. The rifle and handgun were recovered at the scene.
