SOUTH LAKE TAHOE — Police have arrested a 55-year-old man in connection with the killing of his roommate earlier this week.

Brad Macewan was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder shortly after midnight Wednesday at the home he shared with Patrick Lee Rego, 52, on the 3700 block of Forest Avenue, said Lt. Dave Stevenson.

He was arrested and booked into El Dorado County Jail in South lake Tahoe without incident, Stevenson said.

Rego was found dead at the residence early Monday morning after Macewan reported his roommate was not breathing.

Rego had a head injury when he was found, according to police.

An autopsy on Rego was completed Tuesday afternoon, but the results were not immediately available.

The case remains under investigation and Stevenson declined to release further information about the case, including a possible motive, Wednesday.

It’s unknown if Macewan has an attorney.

Police ask anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Detective Jeff Roberson at 530-542-6134.
