The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Boat Unit responded to an emergency call at 3:12 p.m. on Aug. 16 of a possible drowning. It made contact with family members on a rental boat who reported their 17-year-old son had been seen swimming toward Fannette Island when he went under the water and had not been seen since. They estimated that the island was about 25 yards from the boat.
The EDSO Dive Team and CHP Helicopter H24 were unable to locate the boy that day. The next morning, at 9:07 a.m., Dive Team members found the body of the boy, identified as Javon Lamar Green, in about 72 feet of water. The boy’s body was recovered at about 9:35 a.m.
The cause of the drowning is still under investigation.
