Town Hall Meeting on Underage Drinking May 1

El Dorado Hills Community Vision Coalition is collaborating with local schools, youth serving organizations, and public agencies to host a forum on the topic of underage drinking. Youth will take a lead role as participants in a Town Hall Meeting on Underage Drinking on Thursday, May 1, from 3 to 5:30 p.m. at the El Dorado Hills CSD Pavilion, 1021 Harvard Way in El Dorado Hills.

The goal of this event is to mobilize the community to make teens and parents aware of the dangers of underage drinking prior to prom and graduation.

“We want to educate youth about the risks of binge drinking and parents about the consequences of providing alcohol to minors, since the majority of underage drinking takes place at home,” said program coordinator Raeann Jones. “We want to highlight programs like ‘Every 15 Minutes’ and ‘Safe and Sober Grad Night,’ since underage drinking and driving kills about 5,000 teens every year.”

“We are partnering with schools and parents to offer extra credit and incentives to youth who attend this important meeting. We need youth input in order to develop effective strategies,” said DJ Peterson, executive director of the Coalition, whose goal is to create safe, healthy, drug-free communities.

A diverse group of presenters including youth, parents, educators, law enforcement, first responders, government officials, prevention specialists and others will exchange information and share resources with participants in order to reduce risky behaviors and increase protective factors. Please join us and provide your comments and recommendations to community leaders on this important topic.
