POLLOCK PINES — Several Pollock Pines residences were crushed Thursday morning when strong winds uprooted massive tress.

At approximately 8:15 a.m., a 30-foot sequoia tree fell on two dwellings at 2656 Sanders Drive in Pollock Pines.

El Dorado County Fire Capt. Paul Dutch told the Mountain Democrat that the sequoia was uprooted, crashed down onto two dwellings and also brought down a live powerline.

Dutch said one resident was home when the tree fell on the Sanders Drive homes but that the individual was unharmed.

Dutch and several firefighters were on-hand Thursday waiting for officials from the county's Building Department to arrive.

Dutch said the buildings would likely be red-tagged as uninhabitable.

Another Pollock Pines home sustained significant damage Thursday when it too was hit by an uprooted tree.

County Fire Capt. Mike Pott said the residence at 3075 Amber Trail was severely damaged as the result of being hit by the tree Thursday morning.

The residence was occupied at the time, Pott said, but no injures were reported.

I would imagine that the tree that fell and damaged TWO homes, pretty well had to be a heck of a lot bigger than just 30 feet tall, probably 130 feet or more. we have trees up to 200 feet up here.
