Veerkamp adds to endorsement list

Brian K. Veerkamp, candidate for District 3 Supervisor, announced his broad based Campaign Endorsers list has expanded to now include nine current or past El Dorado County Board of Supervisors (Joe Flynn, William V.D. Johnson, Sam Bradley, Bill Center, Penny Humphreys, Helen Baumann, Rusty Dupray, Jack Sweeney and John Knight), five current or past City Council members (Mark Acuna, Carl Hagen, Patti Borelli, Wendy Mattson and Kathi Lishman), and the El Dorado County Employees Association, Local #1, along with former District 3 candidates Al Hamilton and Cathy Nerwinski. All endorsers firmly believe Veerkamp has the required knowledge, understanding, experience and necessary leadership skills to get right to work for our county.

Veerkamp has also announced he will if elected, refuse the salary and benefits for the position, thus turning it back to the taxpayers. This elected position is about serving our citizens, not about creating a job for himself.

Former fire chief and fifth generation pioneer family member, Veerkamp submitted formal Declaration of Candidacy papers to the County Elections department on March 7, 2012. He achieved the highest number of votes out of six candidates in the primary on June 5 and he has since been campaigning hard with the assistance of a “Grass Roots” Campaign Committee consisting of a broad base of community supporters. Brian was endorsed by the Sacramento Bee for the primary as well. To learn more about Veerkamp visit the campaign Website at votebveerkamp2012.com or call him at 530-919-0516.

Veerkamp is a 54-year resident of El Dorado County and fifth generation from the pioneer Veerkamp and Wagner families. His great uncle John Wagner served as a Board of Supervisor from 1919 to 1934. Veerkamp has been married for 32 years to his wife Lori and is the father of two daughters Tiffany and Rashell, father in-law to Chad and the grandfather to Ellie.

He got a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and a minor in Economics from California State University, Sacramento. He went to two years of law school and received two Associate of Arts Degrees, one in Fire Technology and the other in General Studies. He has many advanced leadership, governance, management and finance training certificates.

Veerkamp recently retired after 30 years in Public Emergency Services culminating with his last position as fire chief of The El Dorado Hills Fire Department. For 14 years he was an elected board member with the Camino Union School District, serving eight of those years as Board President. For three years he was a board member of the El Dorado County Emergency Services Authority JPA, with the last two years as board chairman. He spent 22 years as Emergency Medical Services Training Program Director for El Dorado County Fire Chief’s Association. Veerkamp has been a Charter Faculty Adjunct Professor with a lifetime teaching credential for Los Rios Community College District for the past 25 years and is still teaching. He is also on the Advisory Board for Los Rios.

A 17-year Rotarian, Veerkamp is also a member of the following clubs and foundations: Kiwanis Club of Placerville, The El Dorado County Taxpayers Association, The El Dorado Rod and Gun Club, Marshall Hospital’s Foundation for Community Health, Cold Springs Golf and Country Club and the American Motorcycle Association. He also belongs to the National Rifle Association, the El Dorado County Fire Chief’s Association, Friends of the Veteran’s Memorial, El Dorado County Farm Bureau, The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, United States Golf Association and is a 365 Club Member for the Boy’s and Girl’s Club of El Dorado County.

Brian, I have high confidence in the intelligence of the voters of El Dorado County, and I am confident that they will reward your obvious qualifications while ignoring your cousin’s occasional silliness on this forum. Good luck (in spite of my enthusiastic support)!

Yeah, but Richard Barb has a picture of himself in an airplane cockpit, and 2,000,000 signs!
