@REW, I asked Joe Harn if it was possible to decline the salary and benefit package offered for the supervisor position. He explained that an "elected" person CAN decline the compensation. Therefore if he never receives the money he can never use it as a tax deduction, and the monies would just stay within the county general fund to be used elsewhere. Frankly, Brian worked for his pension and is now doing a very noble service for his community. Both candidates ran a clean campaign, and for that they should both be looked upon as noble men. Congratulations to Brian, and I look forward to watching your transition into the district 3 seat.

Congratulations Brian. You are the right person to fill Jack Sweeney's shoes. I for one am very proud of you. I wish all of you people would just give it a rest about Brian's fire service career and his pension. He is a good person and he worked hard to get where he go and where he is going.

Brian Veerkamp is retired at 54 after 27 years of fire service and garners a retirement of “$200,000-plus” but “25 to 30 percent of it goes right back to the Government. MT DEMO 5/16/2012
The supervisor-elect has stated for the record that he will not accept either the approximately $70,000 supervisor salary or the county-provided health benefits. As a Public Employee Retirement System annuitant, he has said that he does not need the county pay and benefits.MT DEMO 11/07 /2012
I’m curious of a few items: First: Are these articles factual to begin with? Second: Will the forfeited salary stay within the county? Third: Will the Supervisor be able to use this donation as a tax deduction?
