Barbara Rowell

Barbara Grace (Mayers) Rowell, of Shingle Springs, was born Oct. 31, 1925, in San Francisco and was raised in Sacramento. She was a graduate of CK McClatchy High School in Sacramento and attended Sacramento City College.

Barbara had a variety of careers during her life. She worked as a Society Page reporter for the Sacramento Union Newspaper during the war. She also worked in advertising, in retail, as a bookkeeper, in a delicatessen and later co-owned and operated two different printing businesses with her husband Arnold. After she had children, Barbara volunteered as a scout leader, was president of the PTA and was the No. 1 fan at all school plays, concerts and sporting events.

Barbara and Arnold spent most of their married life in Pacifica, Calif., and once retired spent seven years living and travelling around the country in their 5th wheeler. They lived in Shingle Springs since October 2000.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 64 years, Arnold Rowell of Shingle Springs; her children, Larry Rowell, David Rowell, Debbie Rowell Ng, Tracey Ballardo, Cheryl Rowell Redor and Carol Porciuncula; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A Liturgy service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 19, at 10:30 a.m., at W. F. Gormley & Sons, 2015 Capitol Avenue in Sacramento, Calif. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Barbara Rowell may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at
