Bernadine Katherine Chavez, aka “Bernie,” age 71, of Placerville, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013. She was born on May 21, 1941.

Bernie worked at Aerojet for 15 years as the Administration Assistant for Aerojet Recreation Club and previously once worked under one of our California Assemblymen when Governor Reagan was in office. She was a devoted member of St. Patrick Parish and also previously the St. John Vianney Parish in Rancho Cordova.

Family and friends were Bernie’s passion and delight. She grew up in North Dakota and Minnesota and moved to California when she was just 21. She loved to host dinners and entertain her friends and family. She was always was a great hostess and loved to throw unique, memorable and personalized birthdays for her children when they were growing up. She was very influential in not only her children’s lives, but also of their friends. She is remembered as the mother that taught us all manners and respect.

Bernie is survived by her husband, Vince; her sons, Brad and Blake; her daughter, Melissa; and her grandchildren, Joshua, Ryan, Sierra and Darragh. She also leaves behind numerous loving relatives and friends.

Bernie’s memorial will be held on March 8, at 11 a.m., at St. Patrick Parish, 3109 Sacramento Street in Placerville, Calif. Online condolences, photos and memories can be shared on Bernie’s Memorial Tribute page at chapelofthepinesfunerals.com.
