Betty Henley

Sept. 14, 1923 — April 23, 2013

Betty Jean Henley, age 89, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, in Placerville, Calif., after a long illness. She was born on a farm near Lake Mills, Wis., in 1923. After graduation from high school in Lake Mills she attended the University of Wisconsin for four years and graduated with a Bachelors degree in Dietetics. Following a year of internship at the University of Minnesota Hospital and a year as a Dietitian at Theda Clark Hospital in Neenah, Wis., she spent the rest of her professional career as a Registered Dietitian in V.A. Hospitals in Minneapolis, Minn., and Oakland, Calif. She was a member of the American Dietetic Association. After her retirement she later worked for several years as a consulting dietitian at the Placerville Sanatorium and Placerville Pines Hospital. She was married in 1953 to Robert K. Henley, then with the U.S. Forest Service in Alturas, Calif. After several moves they settled for good in Placerville in 1962.

Betty was preceded in death by her father, Don V. Smith; and mother, Florence Klein Smith of Lake Mills, Wis. Survivors include her husband, Robert of Placerville; daughter, Mary Walgamot and her husband, Ross of Riverbank, Calif.; grandson, Alan Wolgamot, his wife, Christina, and their daughter, Josephine; and grandson, Eric Wolgamot, currently with the Army at Fort Benning, Ga.

A visitation will take place Tuesday, May 3, from 1 to 3 p.m., at Chapel of the Pines, 2588 Cold Springs Road in Placerville. Private inurnment will be held at a later date at Westwood Hills Memorial Park in Placeville. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Betty’s name to Snowline Hospice, 6520 Pleasant Valley Road, Diamond Springs, CA 95619 (online at snowlinehospice.org) or Marshall Hospital, ER, 1100 Marshall Way, Placerville, CA 95667.
