Betty June Williams

March 4, 1921 — Aug. 7, 2012

Betty has joined her beloved husband Bud and grandson Darrin. She was born in Des Moines, Iowa, to James and Edna Seymour. The family moved to California when Betty was two years old, later moving to Placerville at the age of 11. During the World War II years Betty and her family lived in Sonoma, while Bud worked at Mare Island and Betty was a “Rosie the Riveter” for the war effort. Bud enlisted in the Navy in 1944 and Betty, Margie and Bobbie moved back to Placerville. In her youth she lived in Sacramento, attending catholic school and living with the Sisters up stairs at the Stanford House while her mother Edna worked as a domestic for the Tichert family. Betty graduated from Placerville Grammar and in 1939 El Dorado High School.

In her teen years she worked for the Raffeto family and was a waitress at the Cedar Roorn and Blue Bell. Betty and Bud retired in l976, later enjoying many trips, cruises. gardening, golfing and deer hunting in Lassen County, but most of all, “family times.” Betty was a bookkeeper for their many business ventures: Wiiliams & Olmstead Cement Contracting, Sierra Pines Arden Dairy (where Spanky’s Pizza now resides), Flint & Williams General Contracting, Mother Lode Salvage (Smith Flat) and Williams & Son Building Supply. She also worked for the Mountain family at the Tire Exchange, the Camino & Herbert Green Schools and EID.

Betty was preceded in death by the passing of her beloved husband of more than 60 years, Bud; and her grandson, Darrin Ungewitter. She is survived by her family: daughter, Margie (John) Cassie; son, Bob (Viola Mae) Williams; grandchildren, Donner (Edita) Ungewitter, Max (Naomi) Cassie, Karen (Kent) Olmstead, Robert Williams and Bret Williams; and five great-grandchildren; and her wonderful friends, especially Carole Patterson and Lu Nickel. The family is most grateful for the Hospice employees and volunteers and the caring staff at Eskaton, Blairs Lane, for all the love and care they all gave Betty.

The family will have a funeral mass at St. Patrick with burial following on Friday, Aug. 17, at 11 a.m., for family and close loved ones. At a future date there will be a celebration of life honoring her loving life. Betty was the wife and mother everyone hopes to have. Remembrances may be made to Snowline Hospice or the El Dorado High School Alumni Association.
