Clare Ruggle Petersen was born in Oakland, Calif., to August and Bertha Ruggle. She graduated from Oakland High School. She married and raised her family there. She and the love of her life, Roy Petersen, retired to Pollock Pines from Oakland in 1971.
Clare was mother to Stephen (Barbara) Petersen of Crownsville, Md., and Placerville, Glenn (Annette) Petersen of New York City, and Virginia (Alex) Selvin of Santa Fe, N.M.; grandmother to David, Ryan, and Grace Petersen; and sister of Paula Chapman and Carl Ruggle. She was preceded in death by Virginia and Alfred Ruggle. She was aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and a long-time resident of Gold Country Retirement home in Placerville. Clare was especially proud of her part in the fundraising for, and opening of, the Pollock Pines Community Center.
Special thanks to Terry Nelson, her caregiver for many years, and the devoted staff at Gold Country Assisted Living.
A memorial service for friends and family will be conducted on July 20. Arrangements entrusted to Chapel of the Pines Funeral Home in Placerville.
