Oct. 13, 1946 — Jan. 11, 2014
A memorial service for Donnie Ray Jones, of Norfork, Ark., will be held at 2 p.m., on Thursday, Jan. 30, at Kirby and Family Funeral Home Chapel, with Deacon Bob Crawford officiating.
Donnie passed away Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at Hospice Home Care in Little Rock, Ark. He was born in Jochin, W.V., and attended East Bank High School in Cabin Creek, W.V. After serving three years in the Army with an engineering battalion in Germany, he moved to the Sacramento, Calif., area where he met his wife, Karen. They both attended Sacramento City College.
Jones and his wife moved to Norfork in October of 2007 from Placerville, Calif. Donnie worked as a title officer for 10 years, then was recruited by the Federal Land Bank in Sacramento. He retired from the Federal Land Bank as an Assistant Vice President and continued to perform loan certification review in his home office. He built the house he and Karen lived in for more than 30 years in the Sierra foothills, where they enjoyed the country life. He enjoyed carpentry and helping neighbors and friends with their projects. He was an active member of their homeowners’ association and coordinated the community road improvement for 10 years.
Donnie enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially his nephews and nieces. He and Karen were drawn to the Ozarks for its beauty and the change of seasons, similar to West Virginia. He loved animals and nature and he and his wife enjoyed traveling with their two cats to Arkansas state parks, where they enjoyed hiking.
Donnie is survived by his wife, Karen; brother, Danny Jones; sisters, Phyllis Gonzales, Deborah Ghandian and Connie Pritchett; nephews, Ronnie Mattila, Anthony Jones, Timothy Jones, William P. Nicholls, Forrest Viehman and Daniel J.R. Todd; and nieces, Lori Roberts, Nichole Pritchett, Jessica Pritchett, Marissa Nicholls, Morgan Jones and Kendall Morales. He was preceded in death by his father, Claude Robert Jones; mother, Effie Jewell Tackett Jones; and niece, Kelley Todd.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Food Bank of North Central Arkansas, the Humane Society of North Central Arkansas, the ASPCA, or the Nature Conservancy.
