Eleanor Hope (Peterson) Tombs, 86, an El Dorado County resident for 50 years, died April 28, 2014. She was born Sept. 22, 1927, in Placerville, and lived in Sacramento County for the past 16 years. Mrs. Tombs died from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Lester Tombs Sr.; sons, Walter Merrifield, Fred Wininger and Lester Tombs Jr.; and siblings, Sonny Peterson, Ruth Petree, Joyce Eshbaugh, Loretta Finger, Florence Gonzalez and Joe Bateman. She is survived by her children, Elaine Earles, Erik Tombs and Kevin Tombs; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Alfred and Johnny Peterson, Patty Finger, Tom Bateman, Winona Simmons and Elmer Thomas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Tombs enjoyed spending time with family and friends, being a housewife, canning and preserving fruits and vegetables she had grown, sewing, camping and beading. Her many accomplishments included raising her children, cooking wonderful meals and making beautiful quilts and crocheted items.
Life without her will never be the same, but she will be in our hearts and memories forever. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, May 18, from 12 to 4 p.m., at Cordova Senior Center, 3480 Routier Road in Rancho Cordova. You can make donations to your favorite charity in her memory. Plants or fresh cut flowers only at her celebration.
