Born May 7, 1928, in Chicago, Ill., George M. Feathers Jr. passed away peacefully on Oct. 10, 2013, in Carmichael, Calif., at the age of 85. He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Claudia; two daughters, Rachel (Tim) and Rebecca (Bill); and granddaughters, Chelsey and Natalie. He is also survived by his brother, Jim Feathers; and nephews, James (Lynn) and Allen (Karen).
In 1946, George graduated from El Dorado High School in Placerville, Calif. He served in the U.S. Navy and held various jobs during his lifetime. After 30 years of employment with the Pacific Telephone Company, he retired in 1983. George continued to be active, taking pleasure in the time spent with his family and friends. He was a member in good standing with the Masonic Lodge No. 789 and a longtime member of the Carmichael Presbyterian Church Mariner Group, Clipper Ship. He loved the time spent at the family’s mountain cabin in Phillips, Calif., where his skills in carpentry, building rock walls, engineering and gardening can be seen everywhere. He always enjoyed the impromptu gatherings with the “Mountain Neighborhood” friends. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 17, at the El Dorado Community Church, 4701 Church Street in El Dorado, Calif. (95625). Interment will be at El Dorado Cemetery, a block from the church. Friends are invited to a visitation at the Chapel of the Pines Funeral Home on Wednesday from 1 to 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers please make donations in honor of George to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children at shrinershospitalsforchildren.org/Hospitals/Locations/NorthernCalifornia.aspx or to the charity of your choice.
