Gil was born in Dardanelle, Ark. He was a Sacramento and El Dorado County resident for 66 years and a Sacramento City Fireman for 34 years, retiring as a Captain in 1986. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Eva Dell; twin brother, Gilbert; great-grandson, Paul John Jr.; brothers, Wade and Russell; sisters, Virginia, Naomi, Reba and Wanda; and his parents, Roger and Zola Mashburn. He is survived by his brother, Donald Mashburn of Little Rock, Ark.; five children, Barbara DeMartini, Carolyn (Eugene) Baker, Geneva (Richard) Hanson, Roy (Angie) Mashburn and Ron (Valerie) Mashburn; 14 grandchildren, Jeffery, John, Tammie, Marlo, Dewayne, Paul, Anthony, Joseph, Jessica, Amanda, Kayla, Chelcy, Ashley and Roy; 12 great-grandchildren, Alyssa, John, Jacob, Brooklin, Payton, David, Sean, Zachery, Megan, Joesph, Matthew and Zander; and three great-great-grandchildren, Declynn, Relee and Liam.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, Jan. 10, at 1 p.m., (visitation Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m.), at Chapel of the Pines Mortuary, 2855 Cold Springs Road in Placerville, Calif. Online condolences may be posted at chapelofthepinesfunerals.com.
