May 28, 1930 — Aug. 28, 2012
Harley slipped away peacefully on Aug. 28, 2012, to be with the Lord of his life. He suffered a massive stroke which even a clot buster was unable to dislodge. Harley and Wanda were visiting friends for dinner and cards. He was doing what he enjoyed. He is survived by his wife, Wanda; son, David; daughter, Evelyn; two grandchildren, Chris (Shelly) and Heather; three great-granddaughters, Miah, Hailey and Ashlee; and sisters, Charmaine Ferrera and his twin sister, Shirley Albers (Dick).
Harley was very active all his life. He was born in Chico, Calif., to Everett and Ruth. He was a twin to Shirley Weldin Albers. From a very early age he worked in his father’s almond orchard, where he knocked the L out of the almonds causing them to be amonds (to rhyme with salmon). He went to college at Howard Payne University at Brownwood, Texas, and on to Sou Sem. at Louisville, Ky., after four years in the Air Force, ending as a Staff Sgt. in the finance dept.
Harley enjoyed playing cards with friends and playing senior softball for 27 years. He was in the Baptist ministry for 34 years, including Grass Valley, Napa, Chula Vista, and Placer Heights Baptist Church in Placerville. He was a great gardener, hunter and fisherman. He had a special wit and zest for living. Services will be held Sept. 11, at 4 p.m., at the Pollock Pines Community Church with a reception to follow. He especially enjoyed flower gardening; if any flowers are donated, they should be potted so that we might plant them in his honor.
First met Harley on the softball field, November, 1987, and was blessed for almost 27 years with his playing abilities, humor and friendship. I along with every one else who knew him, will always cherish all the days with him and will deeply miss this great person.
