Jacob Joseph Sidney Martin, precious son, brother, nephew, grandson and friend, was born April 23, 1991, and passed away March 21, 2013. From his birth announcement, he was named with love for: Jacob Lawrence Turoff — may he have Jay’s sweetness of heart; Joseph Isadore Martin — may he have Joe’s sense of humor and deep love of family and friends; Sidney Turoff — may he have Sid’s wisdom and warmth and strength of character.
Our Jacob had all of this and more in his too-brief life. He is survived by his parents, Jim Martin and Carla Turoff of Placerville; sister, Lydia Martin, a citizen of the world; uncle, David Turoff of Placerville; grandmother, Bernice Turoff of Grass Valley; and numerous cousins and dear friends here in El Dorado County and his second home in Ascension Parish, La.
A gathering of remembrance will be held at Camp Lotus on Bassi Road on Sunday, April 21, at 3 p.m. (in case of rain, at the Coloma Grange) in Coloma. No flowers or gifts for the family, please; any gifts may be made to the Jacob Martin memorial fund at El Dorado Savings Bank at 2888 Ray Lawyer Drive in Placerville to provide scholarships for substance abuse treatment services to underserved youth at Recovery Happens here in California and Power House Services in Lousiana.
