James Donald Langley “Jim” was born on August 15, 1927, in Omaha, Nebraska. His parents, Martin and Grace Langley, moved their family many times during the 1930’s (ever westward), eventually ending up just outside Barstow, in Kelso California.
Jim graduated from Barstow High School in 1945 and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Marines. He served until 1947, and rode back into his hometown on his Harley-Davidson. He immediately became the heart throb of Wanda Beard; they eloped six weeks later and remained together until her death in 2012. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, music, travel, and most of all, his family.
In 1966 Jim opened “Jim’s Richfield Station” on lower Main Street in Placerville. The station later became known as Jim’s Arco AM/PM. Jim and Wanda ran the AM/PM until it closed in 2002.
Over the course of their 63 year marriage Jim and Wanda had five children, ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Jim is survived by his sons Michael, Russell and James “Randy,” and his daughter Kathy Linton. His son Robert died in 1990. He is also survived by his sister Dorothy Blackwell of Acampo, California.
Jim always felt a strong devotion to his church and to the local community. He was active with the Lion’s Club during the 1960-1970s, and he served several years on the Junior Livestock Auction Committee.
Jim passed away surrounded by his family in Placerville on January 27, 2013. He will be deeply missed. There will be a memorial service honoring his life on March 7, 2013, at 11:00AM at the Church of the Nazarene, 6040 Mother Lode Dr., Placerville, CA.
