James Edward Schultz passed away in Placerville on Aug. 7, 2012, after a brief but difficult battle with cancer. His first wife Rochelle succumbed to cancer in 1997. He leaves his wife of 14 years, Carol Schultz of Placerville; his children, Lesley Schultz of Oakland and Jay (Yin) Schultz of Sacramento; his stepchildren, Jenny (Jerome) Staats and Kerrie Gilbert, both of Washington; his siblings, Ruth (Philip) Bond of Oceanside, Esther (Kenneth) Stevenson of North Dakota and Leland (Dorothy) Schultz of Wisconsin; and his grandchildren, Helena and Cassandra Schultz, Kalea, Alyssa and Drew Staats and Cooper Gilbert; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
James was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and retired from Abbott Laboratories as an electrical engineer after a career of 30 years, working at Collins Radio, Texas Instruments and National Semiconductor. He had a strong interest and training in radio technology and Ham Radio. He also had a great love of flying and was a pilot for more than 45 years. He built and successfully flew two experimental aircraft during the last 14 years.
A memorial service for James will be held on Saturday, Aug. 18, at 12 noon at First Lutheran Church, 1200 Pinecrest Court in Placerville. Private inurnment will be held at a later date at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon. In lieu of flowers contributions in James’ name may be made to the First Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 1200 Pinecrest Court, Placerville, CA 95667.
