James Hamner

March 5, 1926 – March 20, 2012

James Floyd Hamner of Elrod, Tuscaloosa County, Ala., age 86, passed away on March 20, 2012, in Roseville, Calif. He was born to John David Hamner and Effie Mae Pate on March 5, 1926, in Elrod, Ala. He served as a PFC in the Army infantry during World War II. After being honorably discharged in 1946 he married the love of his life, Jettie Ruth in Jasper, Ala. Shortly thereafter their first two children, Teresa and Patty, were born. In 1950 James moved his small family to Northern California to pursue better employment opportunities with his brother Tom and enjoyed a respected 40-year career in the logging industry. The family grew with the birth of their boys, Jim and John. Here in El Dorado County they raised their four children in a community of family and friends they adored.

James will be remembered for so many wonderful qualities, which include being a devoted, loving husband and a strong father who adored his children. He was a cherished grandfather and great-grandfather. He provided for his family through years of hard work. Those who speak of his demeanor remember a man who was the best of storytellers, honest, strong, compassionate, consistent, kind and a great man.

James is survived by his children: daughter, Teresa Egbert (husband Wayne) of Placerville, Calif.; daughter, Patty Kroeker (husband Ken) of Camino, Calif., son, Jim Hamner (wife Cynthia) of Rocklin, Calif., and son, John Hamner (wife Robin) of Placerville, Calif.; his older brother, Wilburn Hamner of Alabama; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

James loved and was loved immensely. He will be honored and remembered at a memorial service at Chapel of the Pines Mortuary in Placerville, Calif., on Saturday, March 24, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in James’ name to Snowline Hospice of El Dorado County. Online condolences may be posted at chapelofthepinesfunerals.com.
