John Wolfenden

April 13, 1935 — March 31, 2012

John Wolfenden, long-time resident of El Dorado County, passed away at his home in Shingle Springs at the age of 76. He is survived by Joan, his wife of 51 years; as well as sons, David Wolfenden and wife, Karen of Placerville and Chuck Wolfenden and Nico Stevenson of Sacramento.

John was born in Gooding, Idaho in 1935. During his early childhood, his family moved to Davis, Calif., where he graduated from Davis High School. After graduation, he joined the Marines, completing boot camp in San Diego and serving for three years as an Aircraft Communications Radar Technician. After leaving the service, John married Joan in 1960 and began his 36-year career as an engineer for Pacific Gas and Electric, moving to Shingle Springs in 1968. He was a community leader for several years, serving as Planning Commissioner of El Dorado County for 8 years, as a member of Latrobe School Board for 8 years and in a variety of other community organizations.

A viewing is scheduled for Friday, April 6, from 3 to 5 p.m., at Green Valley Mortuary in Cameron Park. The service and internment will be on Wednesday, April 11, at 1 p.m., also at Green Valley Mortuary. Service information is available at
