Joyce Margaret Cumbra, 78, of Pollock Pines, Calif., passed away peacefully on Oct. 27, 2012, at home, surrounded by family. She was born in Saint Paul, Minn., the daughter of Edwin and Margaret Strand. She was the oldest of four siblings.

Joyce is survived by her husband, Jim; brother, Gary Strand; son, John (Rita) Cumbra; daughter, Sharon (Bill) Paige; son, Jim Jr. (Trish) Cumbra; son, Mark (Debi) Cumbra; and many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Edwin “Sonny” Strand Jr.; and her sister, Marcia (Strand) Brening.

Joyce played a key role in establishing and the building of Forebay Park, home of Snowline Little League. She also served as President of the Snowline Little League and El Dorado Babe Ruth League during the 70s and 80s. She also served as Secretary of the Pollock Pines Recreation Unlimited and was a member for 26 years. She served the El Dorado County community as a math teacher at Pinewood School in Pollock Pines. She retired from Marshall Hospital, where she was an employee for 30 years.

A celebration of life for Joyce will be held at a later date in lieu of a funeral. This will be coordinated by her son Mark, who can be contacted at mdcumbra@comcast.net. The family of Joyce Cumbra wishes to thank Snowline Hospice for their assistance and support along with the numerous doctors and nurses at Marshall Hospital. Remembrances can be sent to Snowline Little League, Forebay Park.

    Good-bye Mrs. Cumbra. I remember you at Pinewood and from Little League. You will be remembered as a very sweet lady, and you will be missed. God bless and keep you safe and warm until you and your loved ones are reunited.
