Kevin Lay

Nov. 22, 1958 — May 24, 2014

Kevin Fredric Lay, 55, of Cameron Park, died Saturday, May 24, 2014. He was born Nov. 22, 1958, in Sacramento, Calif. He was a 1976 graduate of Woodland High School and was inducted to the Woodland High School Hall of Fame for his baseball talents. He attended College of the Sequoias in Visalia, where he played baseball and Fresno State University, where he majored in business.

Kevin began a 31-year career with FedEx as a courier, of which he was extremely proud. Always the life of the party, he made many friends through his love of golf, sports, mens’ softball (Dawgs of War), his work, neighborhood shenanigans and involvement in his two sons’ football, track and wrestling programs. He always “knew a guy” if you ever needed help or services.

Kevin is survived by this father, Bruce Jerry Lay and stepmother, Ginny Lay of Groveland, Calif.; and his sons, Clark Jeffrey Lay (wife Meredith) of Arlington, Va., and Hunter James Lay of Cameron Park. He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Moore Lay; and beloved brother, Eric Lay. He is also survived by his two sisters, Judy Lay Wright and Nadine Lay Napier; and his loving companion, Barbie McMains of Cameron Park. He will be greatly missed by all of his friends and extended family, including two close friendships he maintained with his sons’ mothers, Cindy Lay Mikulecky and Angela James Lay.

A memorial website has been established at greenvalleymortuary.com. Services will be held Saturday, May 31, at 1 p.m., at Green Valley Mortuary, 2004 Alexandrite Drive in Rescue, Calif. A viewing is available for everyone from 9:30-11 a.m., at the mortuary. A wake will immediately follow and information will be given at the service. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Kevin Lay Memorial Youth Golf Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 72, Shingle Springs, CA 95682.
