Leland Goularte was born Dec. 9, 1920, in Warm Springs, Calif., to Jack and Adelade Goularte, and passed away peacefully on April 29, 2014, in Placerville, Calif. He was one of 15 children and a highly decorated World War II veteran. After a 30-year career at NASA, he retired and began to travel with his wife Gennelle throughout the U.S. in their motorhome and spent numerous winters in Hawaii.
Leland is survived by his daughter, Zelma Lee Leahy and husband, Tom; sons, Leland Jr., Darrell and wife, Charmian and Michael and wife, Debbie; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; his sole surviving brother, Lionel Goularte; and many, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Gennelle; and 13 siblings. He was a wonderful husband, dad, brother, grandpa and uncle who will be dearly missed.
