Mary Ellen Bosworth

Oct. 30, 1917 — March 13, 2013

On March 13, 2013, Mary Ellen Bosworth passed peacefully from our world. She was cherished and loved by many. She was 95 years old. She was the first daughter of Florence and Harry Osmond. She was born on Oct. 30, 1917, in Dayton, Ohio. Her family moved to California when she was nine years old. She graduated from Covina High School and went on to Pasadena Junior College.

In 1938 Mary Ellen married her high school sweetheart, Irwin Bosworth, who was studying forestry at U.C. Berkeley. Irwin’s career with the U.S. Forest Service allowed them to live in a variety of places throughout California, starting with lookout towers and fire guard stations on the Angeles National Forest. Later they lived in Dunsmuir, Quincy, Susanville and Placerville, where she lived for more than 40 years. Irwin died in 1973 and Mary Ellen continued to live in their home until 2009 when she moved to Elk Grove, Calif. During her time in Placerville she was active in the Patrons Club of Cosumnes River College. She also delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. Family was always the center of her life. She took great joy in family gatherings and immense pride in the accomplishments of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Irwin; and her sisters, Jean Shaw of Grants Pass, Ore., and Inez Smith of Crescent City, Calif. She is survived by her children, Ron Bosworth (Alice) of Santa Rosa, Calif., Dale Bosworth (Carma) of Missoula, Mont., and Linda Eggert (Ron) of Elk Grove, Calif.; six grandchildren, Kristy Bosworth, Kelli Minton (Johnny), Neil Bosworth (Amy), Ryan Bosworth (Heidi), Jenny Simoes (Jesse) and Jeff Eggert (Nikki); and nine great-grandchildren, Trevor Simoes, Madison Minton, Caleb Simoes, Brittany Bosworth, Gavin Bosworth, Cassie Minton, Reid Bosworth, Maggie Bosworth and Scarlett Simoes.

Private inurnment will be held at Placerville Union Cemetery. A celebration of Mary Ellen’s life will be held in Elk Grove on April 6. Donations in her memory can be made to your local hospice or Snowline Hospice of El Dorado County, 6520 Pleasant Valley Road, Diamond Springs, CA 95619, or online at snowlinehospice.org.

The family wishes to thank the staff of The Commons at Elk Grove, Palm Valley Care Home No. 4 and Kaiser Hospice for the loving care they gave Mary Ellen. Friends may sign an electronic guestbook and leave condolences at chapelofthepinesfunerals.com.
