Trusting in the promises of Jesus Christ, Mary Mielke of Somerset, Calif., went to meet her Savior on Wednesday, June 26, 2013, in her sleep in Wasilla, Alaska (Heidi’s Place). She was born in Parsons, Kans., and earned her AB degree from Parsons Junior College and her medical technologist degree from Bethany Hospital in Kansas City. She was married to David on Jan. 20, 1954, and later moved to California.
In the 1970s, Mary and David assisted in the founding of Pioneer Bible Church in Somerset, Calif., where she served as Christian Education Director, Sunday School teacher, pianist, organist and treasurer for many years. She loved the Lord. Serving in the church was her joy and a major part of her life. She was a wonderful baker; her apple pie was very popular.
Mary was preceded in death by her father and mother, Joseph and Hazel Estopy; and her husband of 57 years, David. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Helen of Alaska; son, Ivan of California; five grandchildren, Joseph, Esther, Lydia, Samuel and Hannah, also of Alaska; her dearest sister, Naomi and brother-in-law, Bob Mitchum of Houston, Texas; their children, Ann, Rob and Paul; her brother-in-law, Wesley and his wife, Jeanne of Alaska; and their children, Paula, Kristy, Rebecca and Daniel, who were also very close to her heart.
