Dec. 6, 1969 — March 17, 2013
With his family by his side, Michael Jones of Cameron Park went to be with his heavenly father this past weekend after battling cancer for four years. Determined to live for his wife and children, Michael engaged in aggressive treatments from the time he was diagnosed and until the very end. With perseverance and prayer, he continuously beat the odds, initially being told he only had months to live.
Born into an Air Force family, Michael began his life in the Azores and proceeded to live an adventurous childhood in various cities throughout the world. Michael eventually settled down in Clinton County, Ill., in the 80s. Known by many as Jonesy, Michael played pool with Clinton County Men’s Eight Ball and Clinton County Men’s Bank, and was an avid bowler at Baden Bowl. 11 years ago, Michael, his wife Dawn, and young daughter moved to Cameron Park, Calif., to be closer to his beloved in-laws.
In 1 Corinthians 13 it reads “If I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.” Michael was a man of great faith, but moreover, he was a man who knew the importance of love. His love for his wife Dawn was unconditional, the type of love that carried them through years of hardship, the type of love that provided them with years of blessed friendship, memories, and laughter. His love for his children was undeniable, whether it was offering loving words of encouragement, or years spent watching soccer games or driving to San Juan Soccer Club practices – he was there. His love for life was evident through his ability to work a room into a frenzy of laughter with a crazy impersonation or a corny joke, or work those he loved into a tizzy with his determination to be right over obscure trivia. His passion for people was evident in his sincere approach with each person in his life – with Michael you knew you mattered and you were loved, even if you were a Democrat.
Michael was a dedicated husband for more than 20 years to his precious wife and best friend, Dawn Jones; devoted father to Kelly Jones (Shelley) and Abbie Jones; cherished son of Theresa Jones; treasured brother of Cynthia Ledford, Donna Kuhl (Ken), James Jones (Barb) and Valerie Holland (Larry); and adored brother-in-law and uncle in the Garrison family. His father, Leith Malcolm Jones, preceded him in death.
A celebration of Michael’s life will be held for family and friends on Saturday, March 23, at 11 a.m., at Cameron Park County Club at 3201 Royal Drive in Cameron Park, Calif. The celebration will include a service and buffet lunch. Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to a college fund for Michael’s daughter, Abbie Jones.

Mike & Dawn were part of the Garrison family that adopted me when I was at my lowest. Nike did't have a crazy humor, he had a wicked humor! I loved his smile but most of all I loved watching him watch Dawn and he would get this silly grin full of love for her. I have been honored to know him.
