Jan. 23, 1927 — May 23, 2011
Pauline Ann Rantz grew up in Atwater, Calif., where she spent her first seven years before moving to Berkeley. She received her AA degree in Fine Arts from the California College of Arts and Crafts in 1945. Polly attended USO dances where she met her husband Donald Raymond; they married after she accepted his third proposal. Married for 43 years, they resided in Oakland until 1975. It seemed to work out as they raised their five children there and embarked on many memorable adventures. Polly created a home where love of family, community and God were cultivated. After their children grew, Polly and Don moved to Pollock Pines, built a home in the mountains and enjoyed being a part of this small community.
She will be remembered for her Portuguese Sweet Bread, her incredible vegetable gardens and her strong Catholic faith.
Pauline was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, in 1994. She is survived by her sister, Louise Rantz; brothers, George and Anthony Rantz; children, Edward, Michele, Daniel, Donna Jo and John; children-in-law, Diana, Jerry, Judy, Patrick and Corrine; grandchildren, Dawn, Travis, Michael, Nate, Joshua, Kate, Brandy, Jessica, Ryan, Matthew and Jason; and great-grandchildren, Valerie, Shiloh, Joseph, Serena and Gianni.
