Ralph Lovas

April 20, 1925 — May 6, 2012

Ralph Lovas, 87, passed away peacefully in Placerville during the night of the Super Moon on May 6, while convalescing after open heart surgery. Born in San Francisco, he was reared by his paternal grandmother. After serving three years as a United States Marine (Staff Sergeant), he lived the majority of his life in Northern California. He also served as a Masonic Lodge past Grand Master of Hiram 43 in 1976. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy; his daughter and son-in-law, Aleta and Terry Reeser; two granddaughters, Michele Wischmeyer and Jeannette Wooten; and four great-grandchildren, Kaila Johnson and Kyle, Kierstyn and Kinsey Wooten.

Ralph had several different careers during his lifetime. After completing technical training, he became a radio technician for several years before operating Mountain Music vending service in Sacramento and El Dorado counties for more than 25 years. He then discovered his passion for law enforcement and worked with the El Dorado County Sheriff’s office for more than 25 years in several different positions, including evidence management and probation supervision. He thoroughly enjoyed working with everyone at the Sheriff’s office, including his “girls.”

Ralph enjoyed several hobbies over the years, including Ham radio communication, a CB club where his handle was “Chrome Dome,” coin and antique collecting, gardening, feeding his backyard hummingbirds and caring for his many pets over the years.

At his request there were no services held in Placerville. However, there will be a memorial service on Friday, Nov. 9, at 2:30 p.m., at the Riverside National Cemetery, with military honors. Ralph’s family would like to thank neighbors Bob and Sue, Dave and Renee, Patti and Mike and Lori and Ron for all of their help, support and kindness over the past years.

God saw you getting tired when a cure was not to be,
So he closed his arms around you and whispered “Come to Me.”
You didn’t deserve what you went through and so he gave you rest.
God’s garden must be beautiful; He only takes the best.
And when I saw you sleeping so peacefully and free from pain,
I could not wish you back, to suffer that again.
