Ray Tombs
Ray R. Tombs went to rest in Placerville on Jan. 18, 2011. He was the beloved husband of 38 years to Elaine G. Tombs of Placerville. He was preceded in death by his three brothers, Bert, Lester and John. He is survived by his sisters, Mabel Mullanix, Ida Flitz and June Hickerson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was the step-father of Charlene (Jack) Emlay, John (Joanna) Wessman and the late Lee (Kelli) Wessman; grandfather of eight, great-grandfather of 19 and great-great-grandfather of one.

A native of Ash Valley, Calif., Ray was 89 years old. He had lived in El Dorado County since he was 9 years old. He was an employee for more than 46 years of the Michigan Cal Lumber Co. in Camino. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post #119 of Placerville. As a member of the Hangtown Twirlers and the Main Street Strollers, Ray enjoyed square and line dancing and loved to bowl, hunt, fish and tend to his land.

A memorial service will be held on Feb. 10, at 1 p.m., at Green Valley Community Church, 3500 Missouri Flat Road. Private inurnment has been held. Contributions in Ray’s name are preferred to the Boys and Girls Club of Placerville, PO Box 2535, Placerville, CA 95667, Friends may sign a guestbook and leave condolences at Arrangements entrusted to Chapel of the Pines Funeral Home in Placerville.
