June 5, 1948 — Sept. 11, 2012
Bob was born in Placerville on June 5, 1948, and passed away on Sept. 11, 2012, with his beloved wife, Gale, who was his soul mate, life partner and best friend, by his side. He spent his childhood in Camino and the Sierras hunting and fishing. He and Gale met at El Dorado High School when he was 17 and she was 16. From the first date they knew they were made for each other. Bob obtained his BA degree in business from Sacramento State College after their marriage in 1969. He went to work for the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Department in 1970 as a deputy. He was a member of the National Guard for seven years during the Vietnam War and after. In 1976 he fulfilled a lifelong dream of becoming a game warden for the Department of Fish and Game. He enjoyed going to work every day in the woods he loved. He had a passion for safeguarding the wildlife and protecting our fishing and hunting heritage. His passion was hunting and fishing. He spent many hours with friends and family camping and took great joy in teaching children about the outdoors. He was never without three to five hunting dogs and he often said his dogs were his very best friends because they love you unconditionally.
Family meant everything to Bob. His life revolved around his wife, children, relatives and friends. He spent 13 years managing Little League and making sure the boys had quality fields to play baseball on. He left a wonderful legacy by instilling a deep appreciation for the outdoors to both his kids and as a result of that passion, his children followed in his footsteps and went to work for Fish and Game.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Gale; son, Sean and his wife, Alese; daughter, Shelly (Blair) and husband, Dan; two grandchildren, Jesse and Amy; brother, Art and wife, Carol; sister-in-law, Bev Pirtle; nieces, Joyce Pirtle, Diana Ghilarducci (Steve) and Debbie Gosch (Gordon); nephew, Jason; great-nephews, Eric Ghilarducci (Kate) and Brian Ghilarducci; two great-great-nieces; brother-in-law, Darron Cook; and father- and mother-in-law, Roland and Phyllis Cook. He was preceded in death by his older brother, Don Pirtle; and his parents, Wade and Eva Pirtle.
His honesty, generosity and love will be missed by all.
