Roy Carver

Aug. 14, 1944 — Sept. 27, 2013

On Sept. 27, 2013, Roy Arthur Carver went peacefully to be with the Lord after a long battle with cancer, with family and friends by his side. He was born Aug. 14, 1944, in the home of his parents, Reynolds and Elvira on Pleasant Street in Placerville, Calif. He graduated from El Dorado High School in 1963.

In 2005 Roy retired from the City of Placerville, Public Works Department, after a 36-year career. He then enjoyed what he loved most: gardening with his wife of 45 years, Patricia Gregor-Carver, fishing, camping, playing poker, joking, pulling pranks, watching westerns and being with family and friends.

Roy is survived by his wife, Patricia; daughter, Kim Smith and her husband Scott and grandchildren, Travis and Deserae; daughter, Cindy Gray and her husband, Kevin and grandson, Austin; sisters, Aileen Ferreira and Elaine Murray; and brother, Kenny Carver, all of Placerville; not to mention countless family and friends who shared his journey through life.

Services will be held Oct. 19, at 11 a.m., in Shingle Springs, Calif., at Gold Country Baptist Church, with a reception to follow in the Fellowship Hall. Donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation at; or the El Dorado High School Alumni, P.O. Box 1515, Placerville, CA 95667 (Tax ID No. 94-2217782).

Was very saddened to hear of Roy's passing. Anybody who had the pleasure of knowing him would tell you what a genuinely good-natured and generous person he was. He'd give you the shirt off his own back. He was definitely one of the good guys, and a real pleasure to be around. I got a belly laugh when I read about "joking and pulling pranks" up above. Boy, ain't that the truth!!! Roy was a capital prankster, and a master of the friendly, joking jab. I used to love watching him joke around with the waitresses at the Buttercup Pantry, though to his surprise they often gave back just as good as (if not better) than they got. My sincerest condolences to his family. The world's loss will be heaven's gain.

Thank you for your kind words. He touched everyone's heart in some way with his crazy sense of humor. He is missed more than words can say.
