Jan. 14, 1925 – June 24, 2012
Russell Land, Sr., was born on Jan. 14, 1925, in Susanville, Calif., and passed away peacefully on June 24, 2012, in Roseville, Calif. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Marion; and oldest son Russell, Jr.l who passed away in February of this year. He has two surviving children, Richard Land (Betsy) and Kathleen McKillip (David); nine grandchildren, Jae (Carol), Eric, Allen (Jennifer), Shannon, Kacie, Kevin (Brittney), Steven (Katharina), Sarah, Shawna (Cody); and nine great-grandchildren.
After graduating in 1942 from El Dorado High School, Russell joined the U.S. Air Force and was the co-pilot of a B-17 aircraft in the 339th Bomber Squadron. After World War II, he married the love of his life (after a 6-week courtship) and worked in the lumber industry for 44 years in Northern California.
In his 22 years of retirement, Russell enjoyed travel, golf, reading and breakfast at the Granite Rock Grill in Rocklin. He was the patriarch of the family and his adventurous, positive attitude toward life will be cherished by everyone who got to know him.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, July 7, at 11:30 a.m., at Chapel of the Hills, 1331 Lincoln Way in Auburn, Calif. A reception will immediately follow. Please sign the online guestbook at chapelofthehills-auburn.com.
