Shirley Allen Gregg Yates Baughman, born in Newton Falls, Ohio, on July 5, 1923, passed from this physical world on June 20, 2013, just short of her 90th year. She is survived by Emerson Baughman, her latest marriage of 12 years, following the passing of Don E. Yates, her longtime husband and partner of nearly 40 years. She is also survived by three of four sons, Norbert Yates, Brian Yates and Terence Gregg. There are many grand children, great-grandchildren, and extended family members that will miss her steady hand and unswerving love. She was the eldest of seven sisters.
Shirley’s contributions to Placerville society were many, including being president of the Shakespeare Club and the Republican Woman’s Association. She was also active in the Daughters of the American Revolution. One of the highlights in her life was to reign as El Dorado Rose.
Shirley’s life will be remembered and celebrated on July 28, at 1 p.m., at the Shakespeare Club in Placerville. There will be a short reception to follow. All are welcomed and encouraged to come.
