March 14, 1946 — Nov, 9, 2012
Thomas Edward Avey passed away unexpectedly Nov. 9, 2012, at the age of 66. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Melinda; his four children and their spouses; 10 grandchildren; his brother, Mike; and a community of friends and family related by love if not by blood.
Clean and sober for 26 years, Tom was a leading advocate and pioneer in the field of alcohol and other drug addiction treatment services, who gave everything he had for those truly in need. Among his many roles, he served as the Executive Director of Progress House Inc., until his retirement in 2010.
A Vietnam Era Marine, Tom will be laid to rest with military honors at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery. A celebration of his life was held at the Citrus Heights Community Center on Thursday, Nov. 15.
