Tom Nance, 81, of Placerville, Calif., was born Sept. 1, 1931, in Omaha, Neb., and passed away Oct. 2, 2012, in Placerville. He was preceded in death by his mother, Carol; father, Tom; and brother-in-law, Marvin Morris. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Joan; step-son, Steve Garrish and his wife, Toni; granddaughter, Brittney Garrish; sister, Caroline Morris; cousins, Ernie, Cheryl and Mary Heyborne; and brother-in-law, Harry Thomas.
Tom was a veteran, spending four years in the Navy during the Korean War. He was assigned to two different Air Craft Carriers: first the Kearsarge and then the U.S.S. Boxer.
Tom loved RVing in their Alpenlite 5th Wheel. He and his wife, Joan, did that for more than 35 years. They belonged to the Alpenlite Club called the Foothill 49ers. Joan was told at their last meeting that one of the members made a comment about Tom, calling him “Gentle Tom,” and that was him. He was a great husband, father, grandfather and friend to all.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21, at Westside Church, with Steve Barr officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Westside Church, 4657 Missouri Flat Road, Placerville, CA 95667.
