Verda Barbara (Lease) Honerlah passed peacefully on July 30, 2014, at the age of 86. She was born in Stockton, Calif. She graduated from Stockton High School in 1945. She attended the College of the Pacific (University of the Pacific) and was a member of Alpha Beta Tau sorority. It is at the College of the Pacific where she met her future husband, Robert George Honerlah. She and George were married Oct. 11, 1949, and went on to live in San Mateo, Calif., then moved to Santa Clara, Calif., where they raised their three children, Stephen, Randell and Gesche.
Verda worked at the Santa Clara Post Office as a window clerk, then transferred to the Watsonville, Calif., Post Office, when moving there in 1970. She became the union shop steward in Watsonville. As shop steward, she promoted and gained several equal rights for women. She retired from the postal service in 1989. She loved to garden; her specialties were orchids and bonsai trees. She also enjoyed traveling around the U.S., and especially to Hawaii. Besides her family and friends, her greatest joy was the companionship of her dog, Mickey. She was known for her fun sense of humor and she was not shy about giving her opinion. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend to many. She will be greatly missed.
Verda is survived by her sons, Stephen (wife, Sharon) Honerlah and Randell (wife, Sharon) Honerlah; daughter, Gesche (husband, Robert) Nankivell; grandchildren, Andrew Honerlah, Erika (husband, John McInerney and their children, Hunter, Ryleigh and Kaelin), Katie (husband, Dennis) Cruise, Melissa (husband, Alex Lundie and their children, Jacob and Caleb), and Stephanie (husband, Rick Hudson and their children, Devin, Sierra and Averie); sister in-law, Doris (Warren) Lease; and many nieces and nephews.
