Congratulations, Brian

Retired fire chief and former school board member Brian Veerkamp won election by a big margin to the District 3 seat on the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors. The other candidate, Richard Barb, put on a spirited, but cordial campaign and clearly had the most signs around town. Though either candidate would have done well on the board, we are pleased to see someone with Veerkamp’s experience trading places the retiring Supervisor Jack Sweeney. Sweeney was the most knowledgeable, experienced and influential member of the board.

Our only consolation to losing Sweeney on the board is seeing Veerkamp take over that spot Jan. 2.

Congratulations to Brian Veerkamp on his election win.

Jack Sweeney's footprints are encrusted all over El Dorado County. Having carefully groomed Veerkamp, Sweeney's working assumption is that in Veerkamp he has found a replacement malleable to his own established, ongoing interests. Only time will tell whether Veerkamp is strong enough to separate from his mentor and walk his own principled path. We have to hope so. It is time for change.

    J. Dederick, allow me to challenge your assumptions by pointing out that Sweeney endorsed Hamilton in the primary. Jack is a "johnny-come-lately" to the Veerkamp effort. Welcome Jack! Dederick, reexamine your GOB prejudice, please? The GOB argument is trite, lazy, tired and . . . well . . . worn out.

Mr. Veerkamp, I hate to say it, but you don't know what you're talking about. You haven't been hanging around "the corridors of power" this past year.

Please share with us, J.D., when the Sweeney grooming service began.

Hey Brian I hear that you are a Sweeney groomed Supervisor. That is good fodder. LOL!
