Got ’em

By From page A4 | November 19, 2012

It was a daring heist when two men made off with $1 million in gold and gems from the state Mining and Mineral Museum in Mariposa Setp.28. Mariposa is a small town even though it is the county seat of Mariposa County. The gold display was bound to attract the wrong kind of interest once the price of gold hit the $1,600-$1,700 range.

But a month and a half later the California Highway Patrol announced it has apprehended the two suspected robbers along with an El Dorado County man, Edward Rushing II, 40, as a co-conspirator suspect.

The armed robbery suspects are Matthew Campbell, 43, and Jonathan Matis, 41, both of Sutter County.

There may be additional arrests forthcoming, the CHP informed us. Meanwhile, we congratulate them and the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Department on tracking down these desperadoes. Got ’em.
