I’m ‘just a housewife,’ too

By February 2, 2011

I strongly disagree with the views expressed by letter writer Mr. Rouse on Jan. 31. The election for the 4th Assembly District is not being initiated by Sen. Gaines. It was called by the governor. Sen. Gaines ran for the senatorial seat, because then Sen. Dave Cox passed away. Having won the senatorial seat, a special election
was then scheduled.

I, being “just a housewife,” took offense at Mr. Rouse’s comments on Mrs. Gaines’ qualifications. When did being a housewife disqualify an individual from running for political office? Have you ever met her and chatted with her? If you had you would have been impressed. She is an intelligent, straightforward woman who has many positive attributes and experience: a housewife being one of many facets of what has made her very qualified to run for office. She would be a breath of fresh air down at the capitol.

And, just for your information, Mr. Rouse, Sen. Gaines is untouchable because he is an outstanding individual and honest politician and the voters see that in him.

I strongly disagree with some of your comments. They were downright uncalled for. I am sure I am not the only woman or man who was offended by them.
